The stalwart of any adventurer’s kit is the daypack. A bag compact enough to be classed as every day carry, with enough room to hold everything you need to take into action.

The original Norwegian Army patrol pack has been described as the most beautiful daypack ever made. However, the originals are becoming next to impossible to find in any condition, as used and surplus stores have been depleted.

After many years restoring these vintage military packs in our workshops, the design was a natural choice for our line of new-made bags.

This modern version of the 18L PATROL Pack remains true to the original, retaining its compact size and the simplicity of the classic design. The pack is made in a green military-spec canvas, chestnut 100% cowhide top grade leather and brass coloured metalwork.

The pack is lined and includes an inside front zipper pocket. For structure and support, there is a flexible internal ‘frame’ made up of 3 lightweight panels in the back section.

Each bag in the limited edition run is individually numbered.

The packs are available in a choice of two finishes:

(1) a fully waterproof, modern dry finish; or

(2) a traditional hand-waxed finish using our own all-natural wax formula (see Additional info tab for more info).

Modern Dry Finish, Hand Waxed

1) Hand waxing provides a different result every time.
2) Wax can take a while to fully dry on the canvas. There is a small chance wax could get on to clothes from the pack.
3) Be aware that wax can get on the axe-band material and can look like a 'stain'.
4) Wax may discolour the white paracord closure.
5) The wax has a distinct scent. Most people like it but it may not be for everyone.
6) The wax contains a lemon oil to which a small percentage of people may have an allergy.
7) On rare occasions the wax may seep through to the lining, that may look like a stain.
8) Like all hand waxed products, if left in a hot car in the sun the wax could soften and possibly stain the car.

I live in Central America and was looking for a backpack strong enough to face my minimalistic bushcraft activities… And found it! This little bag can take food, water, tarp, knive, small axe, cooking set and flashlight (give or take some other small things) and still is really comfortable. I’m planing to wax it since rain is really heavy in the tropical jungle and cloudy mountains of Costa Rica.

So obviously I’ve had my patrol for some time now. (Lucky no 13) and I’ve gotta say, I really really like it.

So far I’ve not had any opportunity to take it on ‘proper’ adventures, but it’s been my everyday pack for commute to work, it’s served as an overnight bag for hotel stays, and most recently was my hand luggage and day pack for a trip to North Carolina.

I’ve attached some photos of it in use with me.

It’s surprising how much can be loaded into the bag especially across the top. Jackets, hoodies all secure and comfortable when lashed under the top cover.

Honestly it’s my favourite bag for most purposes right now.

My only criticism is the lower strap, at the bottom of the bag. When it’s done up it digs into my back a little bit so I’ve been leaving that undone.

My only suggestion for improvement would be a way of giving the side straps a way to secure bottles. When they’re done tight they are small enough to secure a steel gloog style canteen round the neck but a way of attaching a bottom loop would be great?

Anyway, I’m really enjoying the pack. It’s lovely.

This rucksack is great & great daypack.
    Because very useful for daypack.
And I want to use everyday.

Beautiful colour & good classic design, but modern design.
It’s my best & perfect day pack.
    I love Wynnchester.

I’m sorry about my poor English.

    Dang!…this pack is awesome.

I have one of the larger Norwegian packs and this is very complimentary. I prefer the older packs. I like the “old school” look. It is the perfect size for a day trip and my use as a “get-home” bag. I live about 12 miles from work on my daily commute.

For every day use, this pack can hold just what I need, and it keeps me from carrying a lot of unnecessary kit. This pack is strong. The materials seem counterintuitive being “old school” but it does work well. It doesn’t look overly “military”. This doesn’t mean it isn’t good looking. It is my opinion that the “tacticool” look is yet another way to be targeted.

The pack’s materials are very durable. I think this pack will last for many years. On my days off, this bag is good for “day hikes”. While the leather straps are not as comfortable as the padded nylon of so many new-style bags … they are still very serviceable and serve to also keep the weight I’d put in the pack down. Less weight carried translates to increased mobility.

Bottom Line: I can fit everything I need and not be overburdened. It looks good and it’s “overbuilt”. I like it!

I have been using my patrol pack for a couple of weeks. What can I say?

First of all, it looks great! I really like its very simple and classic design (the colour scheme will never go out of style).

What else? The backpack looks to be built to last. Even the stitching shows an attention to detail. It’s an example of craftsmanship which is hard to find nowadays.

The patrol pack is very comfortable even when fully packed. It easily carries a sandwich, a small thermos with hot tea, a book and a waterproof jacket. And all while keeping its shape!

    Thank you guys! Well done!!

I have been out twice overnight camping with the patrol pack and I’m very pleased with it. My PLCE belt fits through the lower strap and the pack is comfortable to wear. It has also been carried unconventionally, putting the leather straps through a carabina on my bedroll and using the pack as a counterweight, front of body.

It’s a good size and design. The straps on the side are great, being far more versatile than pockets. I use them to attach a rolled up jacket and water bottle/thermos. The back slot has a mini axe fitted nicely. On a day to day basis the pack in kept in my car as a grab bag with essential clothing and equipment.

It’s hard to think of any real criticisms at this early stage, not yet having walked any great distance or encountered any bad conditions with it. The bag appears to be very well made and exceeded quality expectations.

The pack is good, used everyday so far for work and play.

Just the right size for what is needed for the day, only thing i would change is to age it about 30 years but i’m working on that one day by day.

Starting to pick up the odd mark but that’s good in my book.

The colours of the pack are straight from the woods. I’m really liking it so far.

The pack is both big and small at the same time.

On first use the leather shoulder straps are still a bit stuff, but I know that they will get softer after some treatment of use, rain, sweat and some wax finish. They will match more and more to the shape of my shoulders.

Even though the straps are small and unpadded, they are more comfortable on the shoulder than the straps of some other packs I`ve owned before.

What i really like a lot is that the pack doesn’t move on the back at all (after taking some time to adjust the optimal length of the shoulder straps). After several kilometres of walking I didn’t even realize that it was there.

I was carrying a raincoat, two litres of water in klean kanteen stainless steel bottles and some food – not a real heavy load but also not too light.

This is an absolutely great little pack. I love it . Thanks again.

Surprisingly the rucksacks arrived yesterday at the late Sunday afternoon, they are awesome. I can see and feel the high quality of that pack. Would go so far to say that this is the mother of all daypacks.

The size is absolutely perfect, the long time to wait for this really paid off, my girlfriend likes it a lot too.

I will use it within the next few days for a day hike to see how it feels on the back, when i put in a little load and went some steps at home, it felt very comfortable.

I will keep you posted about that.

Thanks a lot again for your great support!

I am really impressed! You’ve made a great job of reproducing the pack and I love the attention to detail and craftsmanship. It’ll last me many years I think.

I spent many years in the Royal Marines and the Norge pack was used by so many people when I first joined. I had the opportunity to buy a Norge pack after I completed my arctic warfare course in 1987 but demand was so high, the stock we had ran out. I bought a berghaus Munro instead but it wasn’t quite the same…

So, after 30 years, I finally have the day sack I wanted 🙂

I went out for a short stroll with my dog on the Ashdown Forest this morning carrying my new patrol pack loaded with my usual kit for a day’s hiking.

Initially I thought that the shoulder straps might have been slightly uncomfortable, as being new they were still quite rigid. In reality the pack proved to be extremely comfortable and the straps did not rub at all.

I did experience a slight problem when we set off in that the inwards facing buckle on the bottom compression strap was intermittently jabbing me in my lower back. The simple solution was to loosen this strap by one hole so that the buckle now pointed downwards which kept it away from my body.

We were walking for approximately 90 minutes over rough and undulating terrain with several short sharp ascents and descents. Throughout our short journey the pack was very stable on my back, supporting the load well with very little movement or slippage.

Not only does the pack look great, it was also a pleasure to wear.
